Two-Week Writing Prompt Recap: A Letter to Your Future Self
Two weeks ago, our prompt invited you to write a letter to your future self, imagining what your life might be like in ten years. Additionally, this prompt encouraged self-reflection, goal setting, and the expression of hopes and dreams.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t just about envisioning the future, it was also about reflecting on your current state and what you value today.
Why This Prompt Was Important?
The Letter to Your Future Self prompt served several key purposes:
1. Self-Reflection: It encouraged writers to take a step back and assess their current lives. The main reason for this, was primarily to get them to focus on what matters most to them.
2. Goal Setting: The prompt also prompted reflection on future aspirations, allowing writers to visualize their ideal paths and achievements.
3. Creative Imagination: It allows you to unleash your creativity by imagining different scenarios and possibilities for the future.
4. Emotional Expression: The prompt also provided an avenue to express hopes, dreams, fears, and aspirations in a deeply personal way.
Outstanding Submissions
Remarkably, I was thoroughly impressed by the creativity and honesty in all the submissions. With that stated, here are a few notable pieces, but (remember that names are kept anonymous for privacy), highlighting the various ways our writers approached this prompt:
1. The Visionary Letter: One writer crafted a beautifully detailed letter painting a vivid picture of their future. Moreover, it was filled with accomplishments in their career, personal growth, and impactful community involvement. They also used descriptive language and vivid imagery.
2. The Reflective Letter: This entry focused more on the emotional journey. The writer honestly explored past struggles and how they hope to overcome them, by focusing on personal development.
3. The Humorous Letter: This letter offered a lighthearted tone by clearly showcasing how much they hoped to have achieved while also acknowledging the reality of navigating life with its ups and downs.
4. The Bold Letter: This letter was a strong voice of determination. Evidently, it showed confidence in their abilities to achieve their goals and it also served as a strong reminder that they were in control of their path.
Anyway, these are just a few examples of the many brilliant submissions we received. Each letter was very unique and reflective of the writer’s individuality. Hence, we commend everyone who participated in the challenge!
