For our Writer’s interview for inspiration this week, we have the pleasure of featuring a talented writer and fellow participant in the Writer’s Growth Academy program, Dearrrr Light.
In this conversation, we dive into her creative journey, daily writing process, and the wins and doubts she’s navigated.
So, whether you’re still drafting your first page or finishing your fifth novel, these insights from Dearrrr Light might spark something in your own process.
Meet Dearrrr Light
Light is an emerging writer known for her emotionally charged storytelling and bold, distinctive voice.
She recently wrapped her first manuscript titled MY INSATIABLE DESIRES, which dives into themes of longing, vulnerability, and identity.
Right now, she’s sharpening her craft inside the Writer’s Growth Academy, a space that’s been key to her growth.
But instead of me telling you her story, let’s hear it directly from her.
This Week Writer’s Interview for Inspiration with Dearrrr Light
What Inspired You To Start Writing?
Dearrrr Light:
“Honestly, I’ve always been a storyteller, even before I knew what that meant. I used to narrate dramatic soap-opera-level scenarios to my Barbie dolls. Writing started as this secret place I’d run to when I didn’t have the words out loud.”
“It wasn’t until a creative writing course in college that something cracked open in me. The way we analyzed stories, and wrote our own, lit me up. That’s when I knew I didn’t want to stop.”
Can You Describe Your Writing Process?
Dearrrr Light:
“Messy. Wild. But weirdly consistent. I do start with a rough outline, usually on the Notes app or Post-Its, whatever’s close. But I let the story shift if it wants to.”
“Most of my best scenes came when I wasn’t trying too hard, just typing like I was eavesdropping on my characters.”
I really loved this part of her process because it reminds me how freedom often leads to flow, and not everything has to be rigid or perfect.
Challenges You’ve Faced As A Writer, and How You Overcame Them?
Dearrrr Light:
“Oh, self-doubt is the loudest roommate in my brain. There were months I didn’t write because I felt like I had nothing worth saying.”
“But community changed that. Being part of the Writer’s Growth Academy gave me people who reminded me that doubt is normal. We share critiques, we celebrate wins, and that keeps me grounded.”
How has the Writer’s Growth Academy Impacted Your Writing Journey?
Dearrrr Light:
“It’s been a complete shift. Before, I’s just write and hope it worked. But now, I understand structure, like pacing, character arcs, conflict. The lessons are practical but inspiring.”
“And the people?”
“I found writer friends who cheer for you and challenge you to grow. It’s not just a course, it’s a creative family.”
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Dearrrr Light:
“Start where you are, even if it’s a mess. Write something terrible on purpose if it helps. Don’t obsess over sounding like a ‘real writer’, you already are one.”
“And please, don’t wait for permission to tell your story. It matters. Even if only one person reads it and feels seen, that’s everything.”
That resonated with me deeply, because so many writers forget that rough beginnings are still brave beginnings.
Thank you, Dearrrr Light, for sharing your insights and experiences with us.
